DC Universe Online Delayed Till 2011

Sony Online Entertainment announced today that their superhero action-based MMO headed to the Playstation 3 would not arrive on shelves before the holidays as originally planned. Instead, the game will be released in early 2011, though no definitive date was announced.

Despite this disappointing news SOE provided some rays of hope with details of the DCU Online beta. Players with VIP key cards and those that have registered at the DCU Online website will receive priority access to the beta starting as early as next week. Also, anyone in North America who pre-orders the game by November 15th will be guaranteed beta access by November 30th. If you wait till after November 15th you will gain access to the beta a week prior to the game’s launch date. This will provide those who pre-ordered late to still participate in the Battle of Legends special event that will end the beta. Starting October 7th instructions for how to qualify and receive your pre-order beta key will be available at www.dcuniverseonline.com/betakey. If you wish to register for the beta without pre-ordering you have until midnight tonight (PST) to register, though this does not assure access.

Another bonus is the announcement of a Collector’s Edition for the Playstation 3 release in North America that will include all the items in the PC Collector’s Edition release. These items are listed below.

– DCU Online Batman statue
– Limited edition Art of DC Universe Online art book
– DCUO Legends Issue #0 comic book with Jim Lee variant cover
– DCUO Prestige comic presentation of the DCUO back-story
– Limited edition Jim Lee drawn posterio version of the Issue #0 comic book variant cover

With the beta starting soon and the newly revealed Collector’s edition Sony Online Entertainment has been able to mix a little sugar into a fairly sour delay announcement.
