Rock Band 3: Transferring Rock Band 2 Songs and Lennon’s Imagine Album

Good news everyone, Rock Band 3 is in stores today! Bad news if you don’t have your Rock Band 2 instruction manual you have a few more steps to go through to transfer your Rock Band 2 content. For those who held onto their manuals all you need to do is:

1. Visit rockband.com/ps3-export
2. When prompted, enter the sixteen digit code from the back of your Rock Band 2 manual.
3. Copy down the new twelve digit code that the website gives you.
4. In Rock Band 3, go to “Get More Songs” in the Main Menu.
5. Select “Redeem Code.”
6. Enter the twelve digit code you received from the website.

However, there are a few caveats as you need to be ready to fork over $10 to move your tracks. Also, the entire setlist will not transfer; you will lose five songs from the main setlist in the transition:

AC/DC – Let There Be Rock
Journey – Any Way You Want It
Metallica – Battery
Red Hot Chili Peppers – Give It Away
Soundgarden – Spoonman

In addition, nine songs from the Harmonix bands will also not transfer initially, but will be available in the future as a free DLC pack. They are:

Abnormality – Visions
Anarchy Club – Get Clean
Bang Camaro – Night Lies
Breaking Wheel – Shoulder to the Plow
Libyans – Welcome to the Neighborhood
The Main Drag – A Jagged Gorgeous Winter
Speck – Conventional Lover
The Sterns – Supreme Girl
That Handsome Devil – Rob the Prez-O-Dent

If you paid for the Rock Band 1 transfer pack then all the songs that migrated to Rock Band 2 will also be available in Rock Band 3.

If you happen not to have held onto your Rock Band 2 instruction manual, first shame on you, and second, you will need to visit support.ea.com and they should be able to get you a transfer code.

Once you have all your old tracks transferred over then it’s time to grab some new music and one of the first downloadable albums for Rock Band 3 just happens to be one of the greatest albums of all time, John Lennon’s Imagine.

“The songs on John Lennon’s Imagine run the gamut from beautiful piano-driven ballads like ‘Jealous Guy’ to all-out guitar rockers like ‘Gimme Some Truth,’” said Paul DeGooyer, senior vice president of electronic games, music and programming for MTV Networks, summarizing the album. An exact release date and price was not given for the album, but it should be showing up within the next few weeks. The tracklist consists of:

“Imagine” (already on Rock Band 3 disc)
“Crippled Inside”
“Jealous Guy”
“It’s So Hard”
“I Don’t Wanna Be A Soldier Mama”
“Gimme Some Truth”
“Oh My Love”
“How Do You Sleep?”
“How?”
“Oh Yoko!”

So get ready to celebrate John Lennon’s 70th birthday by playing one of his greatest works.

  • Guess we’ll have to wait for the export feature. From the website (http://www.rockband.com/link):

    Linking is coming very soon!
We’re still putting the finishing touches on this feature and hope to have it ready soon! Stay updated on the forums, on Facebook or on Twitter!

This is really too bad. Transferring songs from Rock Band to Rock Band 2 was buttery smooth when I did it and it was great to have those old tracks pop up in your random setlists along with your DLC songs. That left such a great impression that I’m holding off on playing my copy of Rock Band 3 until I can have everything in one package. It’s the masochistic completionist in me.

this does NOT WORK!!! when you go to that rock band site to the ps3 export thing, it asks for the 12 digit code from the back of your rock band 2 guide. There is NO 12 digit code, only the 16 digit code!! this thing sucks already!

It should work. Use the sixteen digit code and it will spit out a twelve digit code that you can redeem in the game for the Rock Band 2 tracks. I pretty sure it was fixed on the Wednesday after launch (aka last Wednesday). That’s when I was finally able to get my export to go through.

Does not work. Thats the point, it asks for a 12 digit code, but the rock band 2 manual guide has a 16 digit code on the back cover page.

  • I just want to know why after we buy a $60 game we have to pay another $10 to get the songs from RB2 that most people bought and have the manual for. I could understand if you bought it used and needed the code, so WTF?
