PlayStation Rewards Announced

Fancy yourself as a PlayStation loyalist?  Do you bleed virtual blood on the message board battlefield, when Phillip69 claims that the PS3 is just a BluRay player and “has no games?”.  Do you pray and hope that someone from the SCEA heaven might be looking down on you with grace for remaining loyal to PlayStation for so many years?

Well, your prayers may have been answered.  But no need sharpen your blade of wit and industry numbers to engage XboxLover2431 just yet.  While such deeds are indeed noble, Sony has announced that their new Rewards program requires only that you, “play games and interact with the entertainment content that PlayStation has to offer.”

Launching tomorrow (October 28th), PlayStation rewards will begin its life as an invitation-only beta.  For the time being, it will only be available to PS3 owners, but Sony hopes to include PSP users as well, in the near future.

The Rewards program is free  but will primarily focus on PlayStation PLUS and GAP members (Not the clothing store, but the Game Advisory Panel that Sony implemented a few years ago as a HUB for PlayStation fans to provide feedback and interact with each other).

According to the entry in the PlayStation Blog:

rewards include things like…

  • Exclusive PSN avatars that display member status in the program
  • Exclusive dynamic themes and PlayStation Home content
  • Opportunities throughout the program year to participate in members-only sweepstakes and giveaways for experiences and merchandise you won’t find elsewhere (The first of which is an all expenses paid trip to the 2011 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, as PlayStation’s guest)

And this is supposedly the beginning.  The Rewards site will go live tomorrow and will include more information on the program.
