Sony’s CES Keynote Yields No New PSP 2 or PlayStation Phone Info

While not strictly devoted to gaming, the annual Consumer Electronic Expo has often served as a platform for major product announcements. This year was no different. Two rumored and highly anticipated Sony products, the PlayStation Portable 2 and Playstation Phone, were expected by some to be announced today at Sony’s CES keynote. Unfortunately, by the time Kaz Hirai, President and Group CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment, Inc. and Chairman of Sony Computer Entertainment America, finished his speech and left the stage he had not announced either product. That is not to say that there weren’t some interesting tidbits. Most notably Hirai announced that Sony is developing “a variety of new strategic products and services including tablets…as well as smartphones, all the while of course integrating the know-how and the assets that we’ve accumulated from our PlayStation business.”

So not only did we not receive any news on products most Sony fans would buy day one, now we have something new to covet with the Sony tablet. Would this also have PlayStation branding and integration? A PlayStation Pad perhaps? Unfortunately, it looks like Sony isn’t confirming anything for now.
