Cole’s Return to PlayStation 3 Revealed

There will always be an amazing (albeit depressing) moment in inFAMOUS 1 that made me understand the concept of “with great powers comes great responsiblity.”

I had just saved a woman from getting mugged, and I paused to revel in my victory.  The woman ran up to me to say “Thank you,” but her words were cut short.  Almost immediately, she began convulsing and died before my eyes.  I realized (much too late) that I was standing on a puddle of water, and Cole is a living generator.  I had just taken the same innocent life that I had fought to saved, because I wasn’t considering that my own powers existed outside of my punching and shooting.  I thought that was brilliant game-developing.

As excited as we have been for inFAMOUS 2, one piece of information has always been a mystery:  That, of course, is the release date for the anticipated sequel.

Well, the waiting is almost over, as Sony has announced that inFAMOUS 2 will be released on June 7, 2011.  With an updated Karma system, a new city to explore, and new powers to develop, inFAMOUS 2 will pit Cole MacGrath against the dark entity known as “The Beast.”

The sequel will come in the standard edition for $59.99, but will also introduce the Hero Edition for $99.99.  Fans of the series will want to check this edition out, as it comes packed with an 8.5” statue of Cole, a replica of Cole’s sling bag, the inFAMOUS mini comic (by DC Comics), and a collector’s edition soundtrack with bonus tracks.  The Hero Edition also comes packed with a voucher for the Lightning Hook power (that snatches enemies up and brings them to you, for some up-close butt-kicking) in addition to the Electrocution Grenade, that shocks the hell out of your enemies before detonating.

inFAMOUS 2 Standard and Hero Edition is available for pre-order now.
