Catherine Coming to North America In Summer 2011

Atlus has a long history of bringing quirky, unique, and just plain weird titles to American shores. Following on their successes with the Persona series and Demon’s Souls Atlus is once again poised to unleash a weird wonderland on North America with Catherine.

The player is cast as Vincent who has recently begun to discuss the future and long-term commitment with his girlfriend Katherine. Vincent’s lifelong aversion to settling down, coupled with knocking back a few too many during his regular drinking night finds him waking up in bed with Catherine. While she is the most beautiful woman he’s ever seen, she forces him to face many questions. What happened last night, making out or something more? Does he tell Katherine? Why have his dreams seem to grow in dark intensity in proportion to his own guilt?

Focusing on interpersonal relationships, the consequences of falling in love, and navigating the minefield of commitment Catherine is dealing with themes rarely broached in video games. Adding to the unique story is the all-star line up of Atlus favorites with Katsura Hashino (director of Persona 3 and Persona 4) producing, Shigenori Soejima (art director and character designer for Persona 3 and Persona 4) serving as character artist, and Shoji Meguro (music director on Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne, Persona 3 and Persona 4) composing.

No specific release date or pricing details have been announced beyond the game will hit shelves for PS3 in summer 2011. So clear out some time in your summer schedule because if past Atlus titles are any indication this could take you a while, but just remember “Don’t be scared of commitment…be terrified.”
