After what feels like an eternity, finally, this week provides us Blu-ray enthusiasts with something to be happy about.

Here are some of the releases for Tuesday March 8, 2011:

  • Jackass 3: Unrated (2010)
  • Excalibur (1981)
  • Super Bowl XLV Champions: Green Bay Packers (2011)
  • Morning Glory (2010)
  • The Next Three Days (2010)
  • Inside Job (2010)
  • Billy Joel: Live at Shea Stadium (2008)
  • Heart: Night at the Sky Church (2010)
  • The Walking Dead: Season 1 (2010)
  • Every Day (2010)
  • The Reef (2010)

Ok, I may have lied last week when I said there was gonna be a Blu-ray to get hyped-up for.  Being an equally dedicated fan of the Green Bay Packers and the Zombie genre, there are actually 2 releases this week to get excited about – wanna guess which ones they are?

Go Pack!

So, Jackass is the reason it’s a no-brainer right?

  • In the early years of Blu-ray, I wasn’t convinced it was worth the huge premium over DVD prices. A high-quality Up-Converter makes DVDs, especially those in the last several years, results in a pretty high quality picture.

But with Netflix, I rent almost everything on Blu-ray now. I have a wife and three young boys, so my PS3 logs at least as many hours of Netflix (streaming & Blu-ray) as gaming these days.

Everyone should still be conscious Blu-ray consumers and do a little homework before running out and buying a new release. I make solid use of High Def digest and check the specs and reviews beforehand – especially if it’s an older movie that has finally made the conversion. Some just aren’t worth the purchase while most of the newer titles are stunning upgrades.
