Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning Screens

Generally when you get a group of talented people all in the same room someone has to refer to them as a “dream team.” This is a term I’m not terribly fond of. However, in the case of Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, the “dream team” moniker may be fairly appropriate. For those unfamiliar Reckoning is being developed by 38 Studios and its subsidiary Big Huge Games. 38 Studios’ founder and CEO is MLB pitching star Curt Schilling. Apparently major sports figures can open video game studios now, not just become horrible rappers – here’s looking at you Shaq. It’s not just a sportsball player at the top of the corporate pyramid that makes Reckoning interesting. The Executive Art Director for 38 Studios and the man handling the art for Reckoning is Todd MacFarlene, a man you may have heard of if you followed comics or toys in the last twenty years. Couple that with R. A. Salvatore, prolific fantasy writer, and you have some serious artistic muscle.

However, the ultimate goal is to create a video game, and on that side of things they have a few more closers in the bullpen. Key among the technical staff is Ken Rolston, lead designer on Reckoning and designer of The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind and The Elders Scrolls IV: Oblivion. In addition, numerous former employees of Firaxis Games, known for the Civilization series, have key positions in Big Huge Games.

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning should be headed to shelves in 2012. In the meantime, take a look at the screens and hope that this “dream team” keeps us all from the nightmare of another generic fantasy RPG.
