Warlords Remake Storming PSN This Summer

For retro game aficionados, especially those specializing in the Atari 2600, Warlords should ring more than a few bells. Based around a multiplayer, brick-breaking mechanic, each player was responsible for protecting their castle by deflecting a ball bouncing wildly around the screen. Each time a player deflected the projectile it sped up, couple this with two types of balls, fire and lightning, and the ability for players to catch the ball on their paddle, and you have the Goldeneye of the early 1980s. Now Atari has announced that it will be bringing Warlords, developed by Griptonite Games, to the PSN.

The base mechanics of the 1980 original remain intact; you still control a shield that is used to defend your castle. However, you now are forced to multitask as you now are controlling troops in addition to managing your castle’s defenses. Your troops can be used to capture control points, gather powerups, pester your opponents, or aid in your castle’s protection. Other modern features include local and online multiplayer modes, such as co-op siege mode and 2 vs 2 or free for all battles.

Jim Wilson, President and CEO of Atari, notes that his company is hoping to “reintroduce these classic brands to a new generation of gamers.” We shall see if they succeed when Warlords hits PSN this summer. No specific release date or price has been announced.

What does the 23 on the old school 2600 box signify?
Is it like the old choose your own adventure books, making this the 23rd Atari game ever made?

Also, that video made no sense. What the hell was going on?
