Blu-ray Releases: May 3, 2011

If you were waiting for a week to start replacing your standard DVD collection with Blu-ray then this most certainly is that week.  Most of what is available are re-releases.

Here are some of the releases for Tuesday, May 3, 2011:

  • The Green Hornet (2011)
  • From Dusk Till Dawn (1996)
  • The Dilemma (2011)
  • What Dreams May Come (1998)
  • Twelve O’ Clock High (1949)
  • Being Human Season 3 (2011)
  • Taps (1981)
  • All the Right Moves (1983)
  • Halloween H2O (1998)
  • The Crow City of Angels (1996)
  • The Yards (2000)
  • Gangs of New York (2002)
  • Bad Santa (2003)
  • Sling Blade (1996)
  • Iron Monkey (1993)
  • Finding Neverland (2004)
  • Hero (2002)

Believe it or not I’m actually contemplating 1981’s Taps.  It’s one of those movies that I remember seeing about 1000 times after my parents had picked up HBO for the first time.  It was like the only thing on.  Well, that and maybe Stripes (another movie I could probably recite by heart).  There’s just something about watching a young Timothy Hutton and Sean Penn act along side the immensely talented George C. Scott.  Or maybe I want to peer into the eyes of Tom Cruise and look for that early glimmer of madness, compare it to the look he had while jumping on Oprah’s couch.  I’m fairly confident we’ll see that same look.

  • Still waiting for Big Lebowski to get a blu-ray re-release. Guess I’ll need to keep the 360 HD-DVD add on for a little while longer (it’s on HD DVD but not on Blu-ray). 😉

is Green Hornet worth the new release price or should I wait for it to be in the $10 bin at Walmart in a few months?

I haven’t seen the movie but have heard fairly good reviews about it. I will say that if you want the 3D Blu-ray you should probably grab it the first week. The trend I’ve been seeing on 3D releases has been great deals the first week and then they all shoot up to $35 and stay there.

thanks….I don’t have a 3D TV yet so I don’t care much about that….I may just wait for a sale later…..I have a feeling it will be on Netflix streaming pretty fast and then be on sale with Amazon during on of their summer sales….

Best line of the entire move:

Murray: “It’s like going to Wisconsin. You zip right in and you zip right out. No problem”
Ramis: “I got my ass kicked in Wisconsin once”
