Blu-ray Releases: May 10, 2011
Whether you’re into classic westerns, incredible sci-fi or aging rockers this week’s Blu-ray release schedule has something for just about everyone. Fear not all you tween-age girls of the world, Justin Bieber will be making a late-week entry with Never Say Never. It truly is the end of days.
For the rest of humanity, here are some of the other releases for Tuesday, May 10, 2011:
- No Strings Attached (2011)
- Some Like it Hot (1959)
- AC/DC: Live at River Plate (2009)
- I Saw the Devil (2010)
- Alien (1979)
- Aliens (1986)
- Alien 3 (1992)
- Alien Resurrection (1997)
- Patton (1970)
- Equilibrium (2002)
- Hang ‘Em High (1968)
- Flicka 2 (2010)
- Dracula 2000 (guess the release date)
Although the young and hip Justin Bieber is a strong contender this week, I have to go with my gut and recommend one of the best (if not the best) sci-fi trilogies ever made. Of course, I’m referring to the Alien Trilogy: Alien, Aliens and Alien 3. That’s right, I said trilogy. I refuse to acknowledge Alien Resurrection as anything other than the abomination that it was. In my mind, the Alien story ended with Alien 3 and Ripley’s ultimate sacrifice. Sure, David Fincher was practically blacklisted from Hollywood after he directed Alien 3 but he responded with one of the best psychological thrillers I’ve ever seen – Se7en. If you have a mind to, watch the director’s cut of Alien 3 – it’s nearly unrecognizable from the theatrical release (and far superior I might add).
