Catherine: “Meet Vincent” Trailer

As you can tell from the amount of coverage I’ve posted, I’m really looking forward to Catherine. I’ve watched (and posted) every major trailer for the game, but only during this latest trailer did I realize that I don’t really know much about the history of these characters. Previous trailers have focused on a pivotal moment in Vincent and Katherine’s relationship, but the actual underlying relationship has never really been examined, until now. This latest trailer digs deeper into Vincent’s fear of commitment and its causes, including jobs woes and advice from friends who have been in bad relationships. These factors cause Vincent to question whether he can be committed to anyone. This type of self-examination, which is so rare in video game narratives, has really piqued my interest and is why Catherine is one of the titles I’m most looking forward to playing this summer when it releases for PS3 on July 26th.

Ummm… what the hell did I just watch ?  You’re on your own with this one, dude.

I agree that the trailer on its own isn’t the most impressive thing in the world, but if you’ve followed the previous trailers this really sets up the main character, Vincent, nicely. Oddly, Atlus has released trailers for Catherine in reverse of what you would expect. The first trailers for the game showed off a lot of gameplay and the title’s more quirky elements, and each trailer has progressively gotten more grounded and focused on characters. You would expect them to release all the whizz bang gameplay trailers with giant hands wielding killer forks and demon sheep as close to the launch as possible. However, Atlus has always marched to their own drummer.

Do you have any links to gameplay footage ?  I’m curious to see how this works now that you’ve talked it up a bit.
