Blu-ray Releases: June 21, 2011

All kidding aside it’s actually a somewhat promising week.  Kicking things off we have a healthy dose of new releases that received fairly promising reviews: sci-fi Matt Damon in the Adjustment Bureau or an angry, ass-kicking Liam Neeson in Unknown.  If you’re looking for something a little more light-hearted that you can watch with your kids be sure to grab a copy of the latest Diary of a Wimpy Kid.

Here are some of the releases for Tuesday, June 21, 2011:

  • The Adjustment Bureau (2011)
  • Unknown (2011)
  • Diary of  Wimpy Kid: Roderick Rules (2011)
  • The Eagle (2011)
  • The Island (2005)
  • Cedar Rapids (2011)
  • Kiss Me Deadly (1955)
  • Louie: The Complete First Season (2006)
  • The Medallion (2003)
  • Ghost in the Shell – Stand Alone Complex: Solid State Society (2006)
  • Ghost in the Shell – Stand Alone Complex: Individual Eleven (2006)
  • Ghost in the Shell – Stand Alone Complex: The Laughing Man (2005)
  • The Rig (2010)
  • Growth (2010)
  • You Got Served: Beat the World (2011)

My pick this week has got to be a little something called Growth.  I’ve never seen the movie and, until now, I’ve never even heard of it.  The following is a description of what can be expected when you hit play:

In 1989, a breakthrough in Advanced Parasitic Development at the Cuttyhunk Island Research Facility led to a mysterious outbreak that killed most of the center’s staff and the island’s residents. Twenty years later, a young woman who fled the original epidemic has returned with a group of friends to sell her family’s property. But a new breed of parasite may have evolved and survived. They are fast moving. They can slither into or out of any orifice in the human body.

If that’s not enough to get your gross-out juices flowing be sure to check the cover art for what’s sure to be B-rate horror in all its glory.  Disturbing doesn’t quite describe it.

  • See Cedar Rapids. If anything to watch John C. Reilly do his best R-rated version of Dan Aykroyd’s Uncle Roman from The Great Outdoors.

    Wait… hold on a minute.

There’s more than one “You Got Served” flick!?

I’m starting to wish that whole Apocalypse thing did happen, after seeing THAT.
