FIFA 12 cover stars revealed, PES 2012 gets release date

Arsenal wonderkid Jack Wilshere will be gracing the cover of FIFA 12. Alongside Shrek-lookalike Wayne Rooney, Wilshere will be on the UK, Ireland, Scandinavian and Asian covers of the EA title.

There was some heavy suggestion that Rooney, after his off-field ‘activities’ in the past year, would be dropped by the Vancouver-based studio. Huge companies such as Coca Cola terminated their sponsorship deals with him but it seems EA Sports are fine with it.

Wilshere, well-known to be a huge FIFA player, announced the news on his twitter yesterday. Elsewhere, other European countries will have two players of their own nationality, for example Alonso and Pique on the Spanish version. This signals a change from the “global stars” of the past that would appear on all versions. The North American boxart will see Brazilian playmaker Kaka return.

Meanwhile, FIFA‘s main rival Pro Evolution Soccer has had a confirmed release date. Arriving on 14th October throughout Europe, PES 2012 will be a full two weeks behind FIFA, a somewhat surprising decision from Konami.
