SCEA Acquires Sucker Punch Productions

Cole and Sly can now officially call SCEA home, as Sony Computer Entertainment has acquired Sucker Punch Productions.  While this comes as no surprise, given the high marks and success of Sucker Punch’s recent inFamous series, it certainly is a welcoming bit of news, as PlayStation 3’s list of top-tiered first-party producers grows, giving gamers more reasons to make the PS3 their system of choice.

“Sucker Punch Productions is one of the most highly acclaimed development studios in the industry and we have enjoyed a wonderful relationship with the company for over 12 years. We are delighted to officially welcome them to the SCE family,” said Shuhei Yoshida, president, SCE WWS. “The addition of Sucker Punch to SCE WWS reiterates our dedication to developing world class gaming experiences that can only be found on the PlayStation platform. With one of the strongest exclusive software lineups in the PS3’s history, combined with the diverse, innovate content in the works for PlayStation Vita, consumers have a lot to be excited about this year.”

Sucker Punch brought the unique world of Sly Cooper to us during the PS2 era, and introduced us to some memorable characters, as well as an amazing method of platforming that made the player feel like an nimble thief, while removing the frustration of making difficult jumps, that would otherwise kill that same feeling of awesomeness.  That same element was migrated into inFamous, giving the player control of a somewhat-reluctant super hero with amazing powers, and making moving around the city such a great experience, that the challenge of the game came in defeating the bad guys, as opposed to fighting with bad controls.

Expect some news on Sucker Punch’s upcoming titles for both PS3 and PS Vita in the coming months.
