Blu-ray Releases: September 6, 2011

Something must be wrong.  Is this the end of days?  Is it the coming of the Four Horseman of the Apocalypse?  All kidding aside, the first week of September has put a smile on my face with a number of strong titles.

Beginning with The Complete Third Season of Fringe, this show continues to capture my imagination on a weekly basis and is my most anticipated season premiere later this month.  If modern weekly sci-fi isn’t your thing I might suggest some classic horror from the 70s and 80s.  The first 2 Hellraiser movies (really the only 2 worth mentioning), as well as the disturbing The Hills Have Eyes, are both available for your sick and twisted consumption.  Then again, if you can wait until the end of the week, you’ll be able to grab yourself the first of this past summer’s crowded superhero movies: X-men First Class.

Throw in a healthy dose of gangsters and thrillers and you’ll understand how good this week’s release schedule really is.

Here are some of the releases for Tuesday, September 6, 2011:

  • Hanna (2011)
  • Scarface (1983)
  • Fringe: The Complete Third Season (2010-2011)
  • Dressed to Kill (1980)
  • Straw Dogs (1971)
  • Hellbound: Hellraiser 2 (1988)
  • Everything Must Go (2010)
  • The Caine Mutiny (1954)
  • United 93 (2006)
  • The Hills Have Eyes (1977)
  • Last Night (2011)
  • Hellraiser (1987)
  • The Entitled (2011)
  • A Horrible Way to Die (2010)
  • Children of the Corn (1984)
  • Big Momma’s House (2000)
  • Big Momma’s House 2 (2006)
  • X-Men First Class (2011) **Releases on Friday, September 9, 2011**

Interestingly enough, my pick this week also happens to be one of the few movies on this list that I haven’t seen.  2011’s Hanna caught my attention very early on yet I was unable to see it while in the theaters.  It’s received better than average reviews and strikes me as a movie that would visit my PlayStation 3 on more than 1 occasion.

Take a look and decide for yourself:

Ya I’m on the Fringe wagon as well.  Hanna is a watch once movie entertaining but not worth the “new” purchase price.  Very interested to see how the quality on Caine Mutiny as it might be worthwhile upgrading from DVD.

Definitely picking up Scarface, absolute classic. Al Pacino is so damn good in it too. About due for another viewing (been a good couple of years since I last watched it) so this is great timing. But my DVD collection is becoming more and more obsolete…

  • Funny enough, its cheaper to buy the single bluerays of fringe seasons 1 – 3 at best buy than to buy the bundled seasons 1 -3.
