Arkham City ‘Game+ Mode’ detailed

Some light has been shed on the interesting addition to Batman: Arkham City’s story mode.

‘Game+’ was first eluded to when the trophy/achievement list for Rocksteady’s stellar title was leaked online.

Now, the community team from the studio have posted a brief Q&A to answer the main questions gamers had.

Sarah Wellock, community manager, took to the Arkham City forums to set up a thread with the following details:

HOW DO I UNLOCK NEW GAME PLUS?
Finish the game on normal or hard mode

WHAT DO I START NEW GAME PLUS WITH?
ALL of your gadgets from the end of your first play though, ALL of your XP (including unlocked upgrades)

WHAT IS DIFFERENT?
No counter icons on thugs
Different Thug Levels: tougher thugs are available from the start of the game
Different Thug Configuration
Increased difficulty Bosses : Bosses will be even more cunning

HOW IS IT DIFFERENT FROM HARD MODE?
The main difference is that you will have ALL of your gadgets and xp so even though the enemies may be tougher you will have the technical upper hand

IS NEW GAME PLUS ONE DIFFICULTY SETTING?
Yes, regardless of whether you finish the game on normal or hard new game plus will be the same difficulty

CAN I STILL REPLAY THE GAME WITHOUT NEW GAME PLUS?
Yes you can, however you won’t start with all your gadgets

It’s a way to add some replay value to a game that already has so much to do, with, amongst other diversions, Riddler trophies and challenge rooms. Do you think you’d be inclined to go back through the campaign, keeping your gadgets and fighting tougher enemies? Let us know below.

  • The game + is interesting. If there is a time based trophy I guess you could skim through the game faster. And with all the last games xp, i doubt they will be able to crank up the enemies up to a point that it will be a pain.

Interesting that there is a default, harder new game+ difficulty. Demon’s Souls did that too which actually made the second playthrough meaningful instead of just cruising through with a powered-up character.

  • I just hope the improve the challenges. I love the first game and I finished the story mode but I didn’t care about the challenges.
