TGS 2011: PS Vita accessories, battery life outed

Sony used TGS to announce, among many other things, the basic peripherals for the PS Vita. It’s everything you’d expect and they’ll almost certainly be horribly overpriced. I digress though, here’s the full list:

Launch day release

  • Travel pouch/cleaning cloth/wrist strap bundle
  • Mains charger
  • Headset
  • USB cable
  • Screen protector
  • Card case
  • Case
  • Pouch
  • Carry pouch
  • Charging cradle
  • 32GB memory stick
  • 16GB memory stick
  • 8GB memory stick
  • 4GB memory stick

Spring release

  • Car charger
  • Portable charger

Another Vita-based titbit from the conference was the battery details:

  • 2200mA Li-ion battery
  • To charge from 0-100% will take around 2 hours 40 minutes
  • The life will be around 9 hours of music playback, 5 hours of video and between 3-5 hours of gaming, comparable to the 3DS

  • Well, based on the gaming time I think the battery life is acceptable but i hoped it would be a bit more maybe 6 hours but there isn’t a hope in hell that will stop me stop me getting it 😉

Battery life is fine. It’s the same as the 3DS with the added feature of actually having games worth playing.

The gaming battery life isn’t much longer than the amount of time it takes to fully charge it.  Still, it shall be mine.  Oh yes, it shall be mine!

The battery life seems about right for me; I usually play my PSP-3000 for about two hours at a time for games.

Isn’t there any word about internal memory? That’s my biggest concern, and I’m sure I’m not alone there.

Not enough for me, I get the most benefit out of a portable when travelling – long train journey and flights etc usually nowhere to charge it. I’d have hoped for a couple of hours more being that the games look so damn good but I’ll still get it just have to take a charger with you and hope for somewhere to fill up.

Still keen to hear about internal memory though, I guess it took them long enough to announce battery life if internal memory was going to be good news we’d have heard by now?

Not surprised at the battery life. But it works for me only wanting to play a few hours at a time.

I am almost sure that a third party or even Sony will come out with some type of an external battery pack.

    • Sony has already announced an external battery pack add-on to be sold at launch, so if anybody needs the extra juice, it’ll be there.

Yeah thanks for the heads up. I thought they did.

  • I was so hoping to get more than that. Let me explain it will probably even be less than 3 hours if you have 3G version and/or using cameras to play games.
Why are we doing such huge leaps in technology, but we simply cant come up with a decent battery solution? Since when charging mobile everyday became a routine.
I was expecting sony to work something out with this, they used to be pioneers with their stamina technology. At this moment my MBP can manage 8 hours:)
