(12-18 September) And In Other News…

Apart from TGS, a bit of a slow news week this time around. Take a look at the small stories from the last 7 days below and here for the lowdown on everything TGS, as well as a ton of other articles on the site.

Monday 12th:

  • The West & Zampella lawsuit against Activision has finally been given a date in court – May 7th. There was of course the huge furore last year surrounding the two ex-Infinity Ward employees who were sacked from their positions, before their bonuses for Modern Warfare 2 success were paid.
  • Starting from September 29th, Subway in the US will be offering Uncharted goodies with their subs and drinks, although the promotion won’t be making its way to Europeans. The voucher codes include themes, multiplayer skins and passage to the beta.

Tuesday 13th:

  • Angry Birds has passed the huge total of 350 million downloads across iOS, Android, PSN, XBL, Etch-a-sketch, Speak And Spell, Microwave Oven and any other platform it’s appeared on. Publisher Rovio also revealed that over collectively, players of the game sling those crazy birds into green pigs for 300 million minutes each day.
  • Red Dead Redemption is gearing up for a GotY edition, which will include DLC packs such as Undead Nightmare and Liars and Cheats, along with a new “hardcore story mode” and all pre-order bonuses from the original title.

Wednesday 14th:

  • The Japanese are about to receive even more colour choice for their shiny Sony consoles, after a red & black PSP-3000 was announced along with both blue and red PS3’s.
  • Take-Two revealed the Grand Theft Auto series has shipped a mammoth 114 million units. The latest home console release, GTA IV, shifted over 22 million alone.

Thursday 15th:

  • Valve stated they have no intention of developing for neither the mobile or handheld markets, claiming they’re all “about people sitting on their couches or at their desks.”

Friday 16th:

  • Mark of the Assassin, a new DLC pack for Dragon Age II will be arriving on your PlayStation on October 11th.

Saturday 17th:

  • Adding to The Joker, Mr. Freeze, Penguin and a whole catalogue of other Gotham villains, Deadshot will also be added to the baddie roster for upcoming game Batman: Arkham City.

Sunday 18th:

  • After a successful inaugural event that took place this weekend, it was announced GameFest would be returning in 2012.
  • Let’s end the week on some fantastic news – the PS Vita IS region free. Shuhei Yoshida broke the news over Twitter, replying to fans with a simple “Yes, it is.”

    For Angry Birds, don’t forget the PC. I know that you named it by “and any other platform it’s appeared on”, but I think the PC should be mentioned as well with iOS, Android, etc. I use Angry Birds on my PC.

      Yeah rest easy Glenn.  No need to ship games from Japan.  But the bigger question is can you have multiple accounts on the Vita?
