Blu-ray Releases: September 20, 2011

Like a much needed break from a few great videogame weeks, this week’s Blu-ray release schedule will give my wallet a much needed period of rest and recovery.  This just means that any additional and available Blu-ray funds will simply be burned up by more and more games (and more, and more and more . . . ).

There are some notable classics that might be worthy of an upgraded Blu-ray purchase.  Breakfast at Tiffany’s is the first title that comes to mind.  Still, having a family of 3 children – inclusive of 2 little girls – it almost seems inevitable that I’ll need to be adding 1941’s Dumbo to the list.

Here are some of the releases for Tuesday, September 20, 2011:

  • Bridesmaids (2011)
  • Dumbo (1941)
  • Modern Family The Complete Second Season (2010)
  • Breakfast at Tiffany’s (1961)
  • The Kennedy’s (2011)
  • The Others (2001)
  • Set Up (2011)
  • ChromeSkull: Laid to Rest 2 (2011)
  • Dead Heat (1988)
  • Vamp (1986)
  • Scary Movie 2 (2001)
  • Scary Movie 3 (2003)
  • Scrooge (1935)
  • Lady Death (2004)
  • Hawaii Five-O Season 1 (2010)

My pick for this week is another movie that I didn’t have an opportunity to see while it was in theaters but have heard a lot of good things about.  Sure, it’s been done before – and probably done better – but who doesn’t like a night of drunken tomfoolery?

  • Over on the import side, Donnie Yen’s “Wu Xia” is coming to bluray on September 23rd in Hong Kong.  Gamers should note that it also star Tang Wei (from Ang Lee’s “Lust, Caution”) and Takeshi Kaneshiro (from Capcom’s Onimusha.  He is Samanosuke).

Another fun little fact, Donnie Yen worked as fight choreographer on “Onimusha 3”.
