Dead Island heading to the big screen

Recently released Dead Island will be getting a movie release, the inspiration being the game’s initial trailer which got so many people talking.

The zombie title has been quite a success and Lionsgate have seen film-making potential in it. Producer will be Sean Daniel, best known for The Mummy. Joe Drake of Lionsgate had this to say:

“Like the hundreds of journalists and millions of fans who were so passionate and vocal about the Dead Island trailer, we too were awestruck. This is exactly the type of property we’re looking to adapt at Lionsgate – it’s sophisticated, edgy, and a true elevation of a genre that we know and love. It also has built in brand recognition around the world, and franchise potential.”

The production company also remarked that Dead Island “will be an innovation of the zombie genre because of its focus on human emotion, family ties and non-linear storytelling”.

  • …Really? I hope this doesn’t end up like the Metal Gear movie.

The Metal Gear Solid games were movies to begin with.

A movie adaptation ALREADY!? Does anybody know if that’s a record?

It already gets to be made into a movie? That must be that good of a game to stand out of other just-like zombie games.

Okay, I love my horror movies (I own about 400 of them), but I just can’t see a movie being based on a game that is mostly about interacting with other people and items through immersion making a good cinematic experience. Especially when the inspiration is cited as the trailer, and not the game. Though granted…that was a pretty great trailer.
