Golden Joystick Awards 2011

This weekend saw the 29th occurrence of the annual Golden Joysticks, held in London.

The 2011 event also managed to break the Guinness World Record for most votes for a gaming awards event: over the 15 categories, the public cast more than 2 million votes.

The awards have now been going for 1 shy of 30 years, the longest running in the games industry. Like any awards ceremony worth its salt, there’s a lifetime achievement award – this time going to a certain little blue hedgehog. Meanwhile, Valve’s Portal 2 took the biggest prize on offer, being named ultimate game of the year.
