Vita AR details emerge

Sony have announced you’ll be able to download 3 AR games for the PlayStation Vita, free of charge.

Like it’s competitor, the Nintendo 3DS, 6 marker cards will be included with the handheld. So far, Sony have showed off a variety of clever titles that include guiding lasers past obstacles, table-top football and a gardening-based sim. Trust me, they look better than they sound…

In more Vita news, Vodafone have been named as the “preferred partner” in Europe for the 3G functionality. You don’t have to go with them, but Sony are trying to push it by packing in a Vodafone sim card and, far more enticingly, offering a free code for WipEout 2048 if you opt for Vodafone.

On signing the deal, Jim Ryan (CEO of SCEE) said; “With social gaming and connectivity at the heart of PlayStation Vita it is important that we partner with a market leading network provider, to ensure users have a high quality 3G experience. Partnering with Vodafone will enable PS Vita users in the selected countries to always be connected with their PlayStation life, friends and games, wherever they are.”

As we gear up for the launch, there’s now a constant drip-feed of Vita tidbits and this week SCEE also sent out the list of first-party launch titles, as follows:

  • Uncharted: Golden Abyss
  • WipEout 2048
  • Reality Fighters
  • Little Deviants
  • ModNation Racers: Road Trip
  • Everybody’s Golf
  • Escape Plan
  • Gravity Rush
  • Hustle Kings
  • MotorStorm RC
  • Top Darts
  • Super StarDust Delta

Seen as though we’ve recently seen consoles launch with a similar number of first AND third party games combined, I’d say Vita is looking extremely strong right now.

Have my mobile phone and home Broadband with O2 so I’ll almost certainly use them for the Vita as well. Never really been a big Wipeout fan so the preferred partner deal doesn’t entice me.

I’ve already sold my PSP ready to get the vita, figured PSP will be a dime a dozen once it’s out so better to sell it earlier!

I like the fact you don’t have to go with Vodafone if you don’t want.

A very strong line up of games. This handheld will be epic.

Just caved and preordered the 3G right before this announcement. Hopefully we don’t have to do a long term contract. I want wipeout so i will be checking out all the options.

Yep I preordered the wifi initially but upgraded my order via amazon to the 3G when they offered the Vita either 1 or 2 weeks early via some special they had going.  Like some old man on some podcast someplace said, “I rather have it and not need it than not have it and need it” annon PSNation Podcast 🙂

      • I believe in that saying as well

I also think that lbp and unit 13 will be launch titles has well not to sure though but some places including the PlayStation website has them as a launch title also ruin will be in the launch window
