Vita memory card prices revealed

The cost of PlayStation Vita memory cards have been announced via GameStop.

The retailer published the items on their US site and while the cards are certainly pricey when compared to other memory cards, at least they’ve been kept in-line with Japan.

A memory card will almost certainly be required, seen as though there have already been a slew of titles confirmed to require external storage – including Uncharted: Golden Abyss and Ridge Racer.

Here are the prices:

  • 4GB – $29.99
  • 8GB – $44.99
  • 16GB – $69.99
  • 32GB – $119.99

Given the cost of the base wifi system I’m not surprised.  I feel like I was robbing SONY when they first announced the price of the Vita wifi sku.  I think those folks that purchase one will pony up the extra cash for memory.

If Sony was smart they’d bundle some memory with those games that will require the extra hardware with some PSN discounts or free games.

I agree.  A PS Vita Starter Bundle would be a good way for Sony to ease the sticker shock from the memory cards.

Maybe they could pair the Wi-Fi version with a 4 GB card and a voucher for a free month of PS Plus?  They could sell that for a month or two, to see how many of us will get on board.

      • they already have a bundle for the 3g  version where you get the 3g vita Little Deviants 4g memory card and a case and get it a week early for $350 and that bundle looks even better now after seeing the price of the cards I’m getting that bundle and either the 16g or 32g it will depend on the size of the games

I can see your point, and I’m sure most people are eager to get that bundle.  As for me, I’d rather not deal with AT&T (Sony’s U.S. partner for the Vita) and their network for two years.

I did hear that our neighbors to the north are getting a bundle for the Wi-Fi version…  Lucky Canadians.

          • I agree I don’t like AT&T that much but what can you do also I rather have it and not need it than not have it and need it also where I live I’ll be needing it since there aren’t many wifi hotspots here but the AT&T 3g coverage is pretty good

This is just not cool. I didn’t like paying $70 for a 16GB card for my PSP. There is not way that I’m paying that much just for a new card. Bad on your part Sony.

More likely the PS VITA will use the media go app on the pc like the psp. I will buy a 16 or 32 gb card but will have most of my downloadable vita games on my pc where i have a 2 tb hard drive. And any games i want to play ill put on the card from my pc using media go not a big deal for me.so there for i only need 1 memory card and i will use my tax return to pay for it

  • So that roughly equates to £19.50 here in the UK for a 4GB, which isn’t cheap. However it is in-line with retail pricing for things like a “SanDisk Ultra Extreme Mega High-Speed” card so provided they are fast memory with long guarantees it isn’t too bad. Lest us not forget that these are RRP too, so hopefully online retailers sell them for less, however judging by how much 8mb PS2 memory cards are, I doubt it!
