One account only on PS Vita

It was confirmed this morning that the PlayStation Vita will only support one PlayStation Network account.

The news is sure to disappoint many a gamer, a poor move on Sony’s part. What this means is, if you share the handheld with someone else, you’ll both have to play under the same PSN ID and also, you won’t be able to purchase content from different regions on the same Vita.

The information was given at a public Vita event in Japan and credit to the first English language source, Neogaf, who translated as follows:

“Only 1 account. If you want to to use a different account, you need to format the system to factory settings.”

Brad Douglas of Sony Japan then confirmed the news via Twitter:

“The only difference is that Vita requires you to do a factory reset when logging into a new account.”

Sadness but I figured as much

I just can’t come up with a good reason to buy one … this makes it less likely as I’d be likely to want to be able to log my GF in to her account to we she used it.

The money men at Sony are hoping we’ll buy one for the partner aswell.

I’m not shocked, just hoped it wouldn’t be true.

  • Terrible news, was looking forward to using the JP store

  • this is kinda sad but it doesn’t affect me since I only have one account and I’m the only one that plays on my psp go soon to be a vita

Why do this?  Is Game Sharing that rampant and that much of a problem?  Is it the publishers who want  the clamp down?  Game sharing, for the most part, does not equate to missed game sales.

most people wouldn’t even use it for game sharing – they’d use it to have access to another region’s PSN store, to give Sony MORE MONEY! why turn down that chance of greater sales numbers?

So on my PS3 any account can play any game I have download … so I have an NZ account for when I lived there and my UK account for back home … my UK account can play the PS3 games from the NZ account …. will the vita allow game syncing from the PS3? If so does that mean it will only sync games bought on the same account?

  • David Freeman

So this would have to be the same account as your PS3 if there were to be any sort of connectivity between the 2?

  • Rey Barrera

I dunno.  This doesn’t really affect me.  I’m the only one on my PSP, and I’m the only one on my iphone and ipad.  Maybe surfing the UK store is enticing, as I do it on my PS3, but I really don’t see myself doing this so often that this news affects me in any way.

    Hey

    • well we will truly will see which one it will be when glen gets his vita

and if is this is true that would mean that you will need more then one card and would have to switch between them to be the easy way

and it wont bug me either way since all I have is one account but I do understand that people do have other accounts

Thanks for the heads up 🙂
I’ll update this article when I get some time to.

      • Posted an article on the site with the updated news. Thanks Jonathan!

This won’t affect me that much, as I only have one account anyways. But I can totally see this being a problem.
