Two New DmC: Devil May Cry Trailers

A number of features distinguish The Devil May Cry series: its frenetic action, almost trying too hard main character, the ridiculous dialog, and epic boss fights. However, the newest trailers for DmC: Devil May Cry, the fifth installment in this illustrious series, shows off some new aspects to the Devil May Cry formula.

The Fight trailer gives fans a look into the world of DmC as you shift from the everyday world to Limbo, where everything takes on a more fractured and menacing tone, including evil eye security cameras. Enemies explode from the ground and you get to hack away at them using your standard sword, ever present guns and two unconventional weapons – a hookshot to grab faraway enemies and a scythe to carve up those foes that get too close. I was surprised to see a total lack of a heads up display (HUD) in the trailer, including the combo tracker of previous titles, indicating that developer Ninja Theory is going for a more clean, artistic look than past Devil May Cry games.

In addition, to a cleaner presentation the Escape trailer highlights a new addition to the Devil May Cry series, action platforming. You no longer simply move Dante from room to room clearing out baddies; in DmC the environments themselves pose a very real danger. Not only are the levels treacherous, but they also can change dynamically, as demonstrated by the transforming floors of the cathedral.

Whether you are new to the series or have been fighting alongside Dante for years, if action games are your forte you need to keep an eye on DmC, especially as it prepares to hit store shelves in 2012.
