No more Enslaved?

The future of Enslaved is not looking good, with the developer confirming a sequel is just not happening.

Ninja Theory also said they had plans to create a multiplayer mode for the original, which would’ve been available as paid-for DLC. That idea has also been axed.

Enslaved was one of those highly promising, critically acclaimed but commercially ignored titles. In my opinion, it had a lot going for it and was a nice change from the gritty battlegrounds and FPS’ we’re used to. To have a lush, green environment was amazing, with some good gameplay to go along with that. Former PS Nation writer Bill also enjoyed it – you can read his review here.

Speaking to Edge, Tameem Antoniades (creative director) wasn’t 100% certain the IP was over though:

“I’m not sure. We wanted to create affecting characters that felt more like real people than cardboard cutouts.

If the game had been more successful, perhaps other games would follow suit and deem it a worthwhile pursuit. But perhaps instead it will be held as an example of why it doesn’t matter.

Either way, it won’t stop us from trying. I truly believe characters and story can elevate the gameplay and affect people in deep and satisfying ways.”

Oh man that’s not good news. I really liked that game. The game had its problems but the characters were great. No more sexy Trip? Not good.

Ugh, I really like Enslaved. I assumed they would go back to it eventually…then again I assumed that of Heavenly Sword too, but I guess that was axed just as quickly.

This makes me sad. Never before have I cared so deeply for a videogame character like Trip. This is clearly a missed opportunity based on poorly released timing. The world, characters and story of Enslaved will be truly missed
