PS3 firmware 4.11 released today

New PS3 firmware is rolling out today – but very unusually, it’s only mandatory in certain countries.

Sony didn’t give any specifics on the update, only saying:

“This minor firmware improves certain aspects of system software.”

Firmware 4.11 has been confirmed as optional in the US and Canada, but Sony say Europeans will have to update. However, as of 8pm, I’ve still not had to download it, so perhaps there’s a possibility it’s only for continental Europe and not the UK.

It is mandatory in Denmark – When I started my PS3 this morning, I had to upgrade…

  • Yeah, since I wrote this article I did have to upgrade, it was just a day later than what they said
