New PS Vita color arriving in June

Sony Japan have today teased a new ‘Crystal White’ version of the PlayStation Vita.

The alternatively colored handheld will retail at the same price as the original model, and there are no enhancements or alterations other than the design. Alongside the new Vita, a matching set of earphones will be released; priced at 2800 Yen (around $35/£27 – a pretty steep price point).

At present, nothing has been announced for other regions, but we could possibly expect to see something either at E3, or in time for the next Christmas season.

Here is the trailer Sony Japan have released:

Vita sales haven’t exactly been great in Japan so far, so Sony will be hoping this new model provides a boost in numbers. However, that isn’t likely to happen as the majority of Japanese gamers seem to be put off by the games currently on offer.Whilst US gamers were appeased with the likes of Uncharted and MLB, and Europeans equally satisfied with FIFA and WipEout; there is still a lack of a ‘system seller’ in the East. It’s surely only a matter of time before they get their Monster Hunter fix though…

  • They are also releasing a special edition version in august that has some artwork on the back. I don’t remember what game it’s for, and I’m too lazy to look it up, but I’m sure Sony is hoping that is what will get Japanese gamers to line up for the device.

    •  We cover that in the next episode (267) of the podcast 😉
