Epic Games saves Big Huge Games

It has been one of the worst stories to hit gaming in the past year. 38 Studios was shut down by the Rhode Island state government after loans were defaulted on. Since 38 Studio’s owned Big Huge Games, the developer behind Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, it was also forced to shut down operations. It was later revealed that they were working on Kingdoms of Amalur 2. Since the news broke, the gaming community has been embracing the former employees even putting out a Google Doc about all the current gaming related job openings.

In a huge turn of events, Epic has jumped at the opportunity to save the company by forming a brand new studio. In a blog post here , President of Epic Games, Dr. Michael Capps, posted an article stating that higher ups at Big Huge Games contacted him about forming a new studio. He goes on to say that he wants to help them out in this endeavor by having Epic be apart of this studio. In the mean time, Epic will be contracting those employees at Epic’s headquarters in North Carolina. The new studio will be built in Baltimore and ready to go as soon as possible.

Congratulations to those employees and best of wishes to that community. Here is to hoping that an Epic/Big Huge Games partnership is as prosperous as it sounds on paper. I can’t wait to see what gaming ideas come from it.
