New mode announced for ‘F1 2012’

Codemasters have today revealed a ‘Champions Mode’ for their upcoming race sim F1 2012.

The new mode will see players take on the six former F1 champions that are competing in the current season – Schmacher, Button, Vettel, Raikkonen, Hamilton and Alonso.

It will be comprised of “individual race scenarios designed for quick play and instant action” – or in other words, the standard challenge mode you’re now accustomed to experiencing in almost every sports game. Apart from this one only has a measly six races. Then again, it has a fancy new name, which outweighs all the negatives and pretty much means this is a day 1 must-buy.

Here’s Codemasters’ description of the first scenario, via CVG:

“The Kimi Räikkönen challenge sees the player join a race as Kimi’s teammate at Spa Francorchamps. The player has just pitted and is on new tyres while the rest of the pack is on worn rubber with three laps to go until the end of the race. In order to complete the scenario the player has to race through the pack and overtake Kimi before the end of the race.”

A trailer was also released to accompany the announcement:

One thing I took from the new video, is that this game is looking fantastic. Once again, the awesome racing development team at Codies are creating a visually stunning game that raises the bar, just as they’ve done with the likes of Grid and Dirt. Let’s just hope that with this iteration of F1, the graphical leap will also translate to the Vita, unlike last time.

Finally, the publisher announced that the game (including ‘Champions Mode’) will be playable at Gamescom, so expect some more in-depth news regarding F1 2012 to hit the web next week.
