Gaikai and the PlayStation Cloud

Gaikai’s integration with the PlayStation 4 is probably the most intriguing feature talked about today. It will play a very huge part in the next generation for Sony. So lets try and run through the features talked about today’

  • Sony and Gaikai will partner with UStream
  • The Share button on the Dualshock 4 will allow players to stream games in real time to their friends
  • Friends will be able to comment on your screen while you play.
  • Players will be able to” instantly experience” games before they are purchased.
  • Gaikai will allow remote play of PS4 games to the Vita
  • Backwards compatibility(via streaming) will roll out gradually over-time. PS1, PS2, and PS3 games were all mentioned.

How excited do those features make you for the PlayStation 4 and the PlayStation Cloud service?

Just a nerd from the Windy City. I’m actually really bad at describing myself because I get all self-critical and self-conscious. Follow me on Twitter, @The1stMJC, to see my borderline insane rants on tv shows and other non important subjects. If I’m not tweeting I’m probably just watching Buffy or Firefly for the millionth time.

  • All that sounded awesome. But makes me wonder what this is going to cost? I don’t mean console price either.

Hopefully it is rolled into PlayStation Plus. Though with the features Plus might need a price increase.

      • That would be my guess. I know there was a rumor that it would be $80 a year for the services called PlayStation World.

“Full Remote Play” between a home console and a portable device!? I was honestly starting to think it would never happen. The big issue now will be the costs of the Gaikai service for Plus and non-Plus users. A flat, monthly fee? Or a multiple month / yearly subscription, like Plus offers?

    • I think bandwidth is also a issue here. My country has crappy bandwidth caps and all the talk about downloading in the background before you buy. Eeeek

Yeah all this sounds cool, but the internet in the US is just poor.

The make it sound like you’ll have access to the whole catalogue Netflix style rather than what you own. Can’t see people getting rid of their ps3’s anytime soon, I know I’ll be holding onto mine despite retailers already showing ps3/ps4 trade-in offers

  • dont really care about the BC of the ps4. when im playing a ps4 i want to play ps4 games.. although maybe it would be great(idk). the instantly experience games before buying will be great, instead of DLing them and the installing them was soo annoying.. the remote play, idk yet. i might have to buy a vita for that.. streaming games could be pretty cool, or could be the worst thing ever. now we’ll be seeing all these sucky people who shouldnt stream, stream.. and friends will be able to comment on your screen while you play will suck. i want to be in the game, its the same as cross game chat. it could be cool for some but it will annoy me.. but im excited for all good and bad, we need the next gen. frame rate was becoming horrible for many games. and now with all that power ps4 could possibly do anything.. I CANT WAIT
