Remote Play will be mandatory on PS4 games

The head of SCE Worldwide Studios, Shuhei Yoshida, has today confirmed that Remote Play will be mandatory on PlayStation 4 titles.

Following a report from Eurogamer this morning, Yoshida responded to a fan on twitter, saying:

“Yes, it’s true unless the game requires specific hardware like the camera. It will be great to play PS4 games on PS Vita.”

Remote Play allows full console titles to be transmitted over Wi-Fi onto the user’s handheld screen. Between PS3 and PSP, it was a feature that was hardly made use of by developers.

However, with Sony now seemingly keen to show the PS4 can surpass the Wii U‘s capabilites, the platform holder will be concentrating on this exciting interaction between its two premier systems. Whilst its common knowledge the PS4 is far ahead in terms of raw power and online qualities, tackling the USP of Nintendo‘s new console is a different matter.

In the Vita though, it looks as if Sony have found themselves a superior version of the GamePad.

It makes me wonder these three things:

    1. If there will be an attachment for the vita, utilising the mystery accessory port on the top of the vita, adding L2 and R2. – Or is that too much like the doomed circle pad pro from Nintendo.
    2. Will we see a Vita2 with the buttons built in.
    3. Suffer with having to still use the rear touch pad as a ‘messy’ alternative.
