PS4 HDD is 500GB and can be upgraded

Shuhei Yoshida has confirmed on twitter that the PlayStation 4 HDD can be replaced just as with its predecessor.

The president of SCE Worldwide Studios – who had earlier taken to the stage at E3 – revealed the good news:

“And yes, PS4’s HDD is upgradable like PS3 <3”

A 500GB drive will be in the PS4 at launch, so should last for a fair while. However this is fantastic news for those who prefer to download digitally – especially following the announcement that PS Plus will continue to provide free games on PS4.

The news keeps getting better. Nobody has a reason to not buy a PS4 now. Looks like this battle is over. Unless you want a $500 remote control.

  • I was disappointed at first that it only came with a 500gig HDD. But glad to hear that you can upgrade it. Was afraid Sony would make it part of the system and none removable.

I understand why you are disappointed but people like you are in the minority.

      • I know a lot of people were expecting bigger. But since you can change it, it isn’t a big deal.

ok sounds good. Just wondering if we will need to buy faster drives this time? Will next generation consoles need next generation HDDs?
