PS4 and Twitch Partner Up

For those that were worried about which service Sony would partner with when it came to streaming gameplay from the PS4, you can sigh in relief today because Sony and Twitch announced their partnership.

When the player hits that “Share” button on the Dualshock 4 they will be able to stream their gameplay directly to their channels. In addition, players will be able to view content being streamed in the Twitch community from other PS4 gamers. This of course will all be free to all PS4 users and will not be behind the PS Plus pay-wall.

From the press release:

“PlayStation has a long history of delivering some of the best gaming experiences in the industry and we’re excited to have Twitch available on a console as heavily anticipated as PS4,” said Emmett Shear, Twitch CEO. “Through this partnership we are paving the way for every PS4 gamer to become both a broadcaster and an avid spectator of amazing content.”

“Social capabilities are an integral part of PS4, so Twitch will play an important role in delivering a compelling connected experience to PlayStation fans,” said Shuhei Yoshida, President of Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios. “Twitch’s gamer-focused community combined with our strong portfolio of innovative PS4 titles, will help define next generation gameplay and community engagement.”

Just a nerd from the Windy City. I’m actually really bad at describing myself because I get all self-critical and self-conscious. Follow me on Twitter, @The1stMJC, to see my borderline insane rants on tv shows and other non important subjects. If I’m not tweeting I’m probably just watching Buffy or Firefly for the millionth time.

This is some excellent news! When it comes to streaming gameplay or tournaments, Twitch is the way to go. Great to note that you won’t need PS+ to access the stream feature either

  • This is really good news. MS made it sound like it was just them who had it.

this is awesome news. MS made it seem (just like minecraft) twitch was exclusive. which then they said the xbox edition of minecraft is xbox exclusive, which is stupid to say.. they also made it seem like all the other games they shown at E3 ect were exclusive to xbox as well. :/

Now if our headsets could do live commentary I’d be even more thrilled.

It was announced on Twitter by Twitch that you can indeed do Live Commentary. 🙂 I’m excited about that!
