Upgrade PS3 games to PS4 is as easy as 1, 2, …wait, what?

Upgrade

Gamers were really excited when we found out that moving from the current gen to next-gen with some of our games was going to be really easy; all that was needed is an extra $10. But wait! That isn’t all as it seems…

Speaking with Kotaku, multiple publishers have revealed that NOT all of your game’s progress will carry over to the next generation of hardware. Games like Call of Duty: Ghosts and Battlefield 4 will be able to bring your multiplayer progress over from your PS3 game; but players will have to re-start the campaign as that will not transfer. Likewise, people who have devoted hours to Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, will have to devote that same amount of time into the PlayStation 4 version of the game, as the progress you made on the PlayStation 3 will not carry over either.

Currently there is no announcements from any publisher/hardware manufacturer about transporting saves from one system to another; so all those single-player hours you are going to spend on Assassins’ Creed IV will be lost if you want to upgrade. Just keep that in mind.

Will this affect your purchase of a PS3 copy of a game if you are also planning on upgrading to the PS4 version when it is available?

  • So it’s really kind of pointless to buy some of the PS3 versions if you plan to get the PS4 versions? Unless of course you want to do it all over again. Maybe double trophy set? :-p

This has no effect on me, I’m going to wait for PS4 releases. There’s too many games to play on PS3 in that time to worry about about file transfarring…

I guess if you already finished the campaign and are only focusing on the MP, you really won’t be affected. IMO it still sounds like waiting for PS4 versions of the titles you want are smarter than buying the PS3 version and paying $10 more to enjoy the PS4 version of the same game
