Eidos Montreal has announced their vision for the future of the Deus Ex franchise – Deus Ex: Universe. Universe is Eidos Montreal’s very ambitious goal for the Deus Ex franchise going forward on the next-gen hardware and PCs. “The concept behind Deus Ex: Universe is to create an ongoing, expanding and connected game world built across a generation of core games.” posted David Anfossi on the Eidos-Montreal Blog.

Their plan for the franchise is to come out with regular releases, while building a strong story of a deep conspiracy and a deeper universe that will carry over through multiple games. Though the main games will be featured on consoles and PCs, other games will be developed to add to the story that will be available on other hardware – tablets, smartphones, books, graphic novels.

Along with this announcement of Deus Ex: Universe, Anfossi also revealed that the first stage in the new story is already in-development. “I’m pleased to confirm that we are already into production of the starting point for Deus Ex: Universe with a new game for PC and next-generation consoles.”

Below is a concept image that shows trans-humanism segregation; the main theme of the new game. “The people in this segregated class have reshaped their environment, nostalgic for their ideal of Cyber Renaissance. This dark and dystopian vision sets the tone for things to come in Deus Ex.”
