PS3 Reaches 80 Million Units Sold

Sony decided to remind everyone before the PS4 comes out next week that the PS3 was pretty successful. How successful? Well, as of November 2nd, 2013 the PlayStation 3 has sold 80 million units worldwide. This milestone was reached in just 7 years as the PS3 launched on November 11th, 2006 in Japan.

In a press release Sony threw around a lot of numbers. Here are the highlights.

  • 4,332 software titles released for the PS3, excluding downloadable titles.
  • 59 countries connected to PSN.
  • 150 million registered PSN accounts
  • 222,000 pieces of content on the network, of which 72,000 being game content
