Yup, here is a link on the issues this week. I am not that fond of the site, but google news caught it.
And yes, I intentionally waited until late afternoon on Xmas to hook up the PS4 we got the kids, but It was still sucking. Didn’t work much better for the Vita the kids got me either.

Speaking of that bad GT6 review mentioned in this podcast, that site is run by Dan Hsu. You’d think he’d know better than to have someone review a game if they don’t like the genre. For some games it might be okay but not a game like GT6.

    On the topic of Skylanders..

If you checked your PS3 copy of the first game, you’d notice that the portal does in fact, have a wireless dongle. However, kids kept losing the dongle and parents complained so they went with wired in future releases. This also made it so the portal were universally compatible.

Here’s all you need to 100% Swap Force (Thanks to GamerKingFaiz on NeoGAF)

    – Wash Buckler (climb/Water) *Starter

    – Blast Zone (Rocket/Fire) *Starter

    -Rattle Shake (undead/Bounce)

    – Stink Bomb (Life/Sneak) BRAND NEW AND HARD TO FIND

    – Hoot Loop (Magic/Teleport)

    – Magna Charge (Speed/ Tech)

    – Rubble Rouser (Dig /Earth) BRAND NEW AND HARD TO FIND

    – Free Ranger (Spin/ Air) My fave.

Also, one Giant of your choice but that’s only for extra treasure. I don’t think it affects your progress.

Helpful tip: As you play through the game, more secret areas open up in Woodborough for lots of extra treasure making for easier leveling. Check the mushrooms growing out the left side of the giant tree. They’re platforms.

    • Hah, we both logged in around the same time to discuss skylanders. 🙂 Thanks for that list, I’ll keep it in mind when I buy more. I already have Free Ranger and Rattle Shake.

  • On Skylanders… You don’t need to have swap characters for both colors to go through a multicolor gate. You can instead use a second controller and just use a regular skylander of the other color you need. If you’re only ever going to play Swapforce, and not go back to the old games though, what you should probably do is get *1* giant character, and then try to find a combination of Swap-force characters so that you have 1 of each movement type, and 1 of each element. I haven’t worked it out on paper, but you shouldn’t need to buy more than 7 more characters to visit all areas and unlock everything. Of course, this is worse than the original where you only needed 5 additional characters… And Giants where you needed 6 additional characters. The 7 you need are all $15 characters as well this time, where it used to be $10 ones on the prior two games.

I used to be a fanatic for the series. The first game, I bought one of every character (29 + the starter kit.) The second one, I only picked up the 8 giants and about 4-5 assorted figures. This one so far, I’ve picked up 3 swap characters and 3 assorted ones.

It’s really easy to build up characters slowly though. You’re in the store, you walk past, see one you don’t have, and it’s only $10-15. You pick one up a week, and within a year you have the entire collection.

One clever thing they did in the first two games is give you experience bonuses for having a larger number of characters from that game’s generation. I had all 32 on the first game, so they gained 3x as much experience while you played, which made it easier to level more of your characters up. I don’t know if they do that with Swap force, as I’ve barely played it so far.
