Square Enix confirms new Hitman game

Yesterday rumors were flying around that the next installment into the Hitman franchise, a supposedly PS4/Xbox One/PC title, was cancelled.

VideoGamer reported that a post on Richard Knight’s, senior game designer, Linkedin profile stated; “Hitman Project (Next-Gen Consoles/Current Gen/PC)” had been cancelled and the studio was focusing on creating games with shorter development times for tablets.

Then, like Batman swooping in from some random location to squash a bad guy, Square Enix came in and squashed this rumor.

In a statement from Square Enix, they confirmed that a new Hitman game was indeed in development at Io-Interactive:

“Io-Interactive is developing a new, AAA Hitman game that will be coming to PC and next-gen consoles and Square Enix Montreal is fully focused on mobile development of games some of which are related to the Hitman franchise. We look forward to sharing more details about these titles later this year.”

While the rumor was technically true, we now know that there is in-deed a next-gen version of a Hitman game in development.
