PlayStation 4 tops 6 million sold

2014-ps4-hardware-news

This morning Sony announced the new sales number of its PlayStation 4. Ignore the number I put into the title of the article and guess how many of those sleek, sexy black boxes have been sold.

Did you happen to guess 6 million? Well, if you have really short-term memory and did guess 6 million – you would be right. With the recent launch of the PlayStation 4 in Japan, selling 370k, the console has passed another huge milestone for Sony and for the PlayStation brand. These numbers are estimates from Sony through March 2nd and they represent number of units sold to customers, not shipping to retailers.

As if announcing those staggering sales numbers wasn’t enough, Sony dived a little more into the various big numbers of the PlayStation 4:

  • Over 13.7 million PlayStation 4 games have been sold
  • PlayStation 4 is available in 57 countries all over the world
  • More than 3.6 million broadcasts have been streamed through Twitch/Ustream/PlayStation Live
  • The Dualshock 4′s ‘Share’ button has been used more than 100 million times

Well done Sony. Well done indeed.
