Amy Hennig Leaves Naughty Dog

Uncharted 3 (B)

The creative director and writer of the Uncharted franchise, Amy Hennig, has left Naughty Dog. IGN broke the news late last night and were given confirmation from Sony about Amy Hennig’s departure from the studio.¬†According to IGN’s sources her departure from the studio may have been due to some turmoil within the studio and its other major players. Though that part of this story can live in the rumor mill until more information comes forward.

In the statement released to IGN, a Sony representative said:

“We can confirm that Amy Hennig has left Naughty Dog. Amy has made significant contributions to the game industry and we appreciate all she has done for Naughty Dog. The development timeline of Uncharted will not be impacted.”

Amy Hennig joined Naughty Dog 10 years ago, working on the Jak and Daxter franchise and then moving on to become the lead writer and creative director for all three Uncharted games. We will update this post as more news becomes available.

Just a nerd from the Windy City. I’m actually really bad at describing myself because I get all self-critical and self-conscious. Follow me on Twitter, @The1stMJC, to see my borderline insane rants on tv shows and other non important subjects. If I’m not tweeting I’m probably just watching Buffy or Firefly for the millionth time.

A very sad moment in the Naughty Dog/Uncharted story. I hope we continue to see her work, especially on a Sony platform.

I can imagine a couple major publishers lining up to work with her.

I think that she would do well at UbiSoft.

  • It will be interesting to see if her leaving has an affect on the story of Uncharted 4. We will most likely not know for sure, but it could be evident in the writing itself. Hopefully whoever Naughty Dog decides to pen the script of Uncharted 4 can nail her writing skills so it doesn’t feel like a major difference.

Or maybe the script is basically already done, which wouldn’t surprise me.

One of Sony’s other developers needs to hire her before Microsoft steals her.

  • This is a big loss for Naughty Dog/Sony. Would not be surprised if Microsoft didn’t try to grab her up. But again, MS has never been good with actual talent.

Everyone says Uncharted 3 was very story driven and I do not disagree. However, I found the story lacking and a bit disinteresting. Neil worked on Uncharted 2 which was the best in series so I think this is a good thing for Uncharted 4. Sorry that she got forced out but Uncharted 3 wasn’t her best work.
