PixelJunk Shooter Ultimate is a twin stick shooter that is as much about blasting things as it is about exploration, puzzle solving and collecting things. Within Shooter Ultimate, players interact with environments that run an advanced fluid dynamics simulation.  These interactions are needed to solve puzzles, and overcome enemies to progress through the levels. But what is the Ultimate version all about, well it comprises of the campaigns the first and second game and adds a 3D ship to the PS4 version allowing us to add animations for aeronautical maneuvering that give better visual feedback. The ship is also treated to the newly introduced real-time lighting, as well as the other visual improvements. It also has real time environment lighting, a host of new visual FX for things like projectiles, explosions, thrusters and more.

There is a new HUD (heads-up display) which will be especially beneficial on the Vita as you’ll be able to see more of the action and last but not least it has cross-play and cross-save. So you and a friend can play together on different systems.

The very talented Double Eleven who are bringing us the port are also reviewing the entire scoring system to make it balanced for newcomers, people who enjoy competitive play and even the score chasers. It should be out in the summer and be sure to keep an eye on this site and an ear on the podcast for more information on this excellent game. Are you excited to play this? As per usual, let us know in the comments below.

It’s cool but getting a little bored with all these games coming to the ps4 that I’ve already played. I know they make minor tweaks but a brand new Shooter game would have gotten me really excited.

    • Entirely understandable, but there are plenty of people out there who never bought the game on the PS3. We’re only a few months in to the PS4’s life and within a year or two we’ll be flooded with more games than we know what to do with.

  • Sony seems to be spending a lot of resources porting over these PS3 games. Which is cool, but; would love to see some new content instead.
