EGX Rezzed 2014: Shadow Warrior

A marvellous wash of blood splatters onto the ground as I effortlessly slice the enemies in two with a big shiny Katana sword. Body parts are flying everywhere in Devolver Digital‘s new PS4 game Shadow Warrior and I love it. Imagine Kill Bill with a healthy dose of crazy and you might be on the right track.

In a chat with Pawel Kowalewski – Game Designer on Shadow Warrior I ask about the graphics, he happily tells me it runs at 1080p and 60fps. From what I played it ran brilliantly, as smooth as silk. I noticed a nice contrast of graphics in the level I played, with an insanely large amount of gore amongst beautiful Japanese bloom trees and forests of bamboo. This game isn’t trying to be ultra realistic or a look into the violence we see in our everyday life just by flicking on the news or renting these so called ‘torture-porn’ films. No instead it’s a re-imagining of a classic over-the-top and crazily fun game from many years ago, when people played games just for fun and developers had so much freedom. Now I’m not sure if all the young naive media of today will see this game in the same light but from what I played I enjoyed. It was the classic game with some very fancy graphics.

Devolver Digital are hoping to release Shadow Warrior in early summer 2014 on the PlayStation 4.
