RetroN 5 Will Be Released on June 6th

The RetroN 5 will be released in the Americas on June 6, 2014.  For those not familiar with the RetroN 5 it is the ultimate backwards compatibility console that will allow people to play games for NES, SNES, Super Famicom, Genesis, Mega Drive, Famicom, Game Boy, Game Boy Color, and the Game Boy Advance.  You can play the games with either the included RetroN 5 controller or the original controllers for the  NES, SNES, and Genesis.  Not just content with being able to play old games, the RetroN 5 also outputs games at 720p using HDMI cables.

Glenn and Josh got some hands-on time with it at this year’s Midwest Gaming Classic and came away very impressed. You can hear about their experiences with it along with one of the guys from Hyperkin on Episode 367 of the podcast.

The system is available in Black and Grey and while the price still hasn’t been officially announced, it should retail for around $129.99. Amazon looks to be sold out of their initial pre-orders can be pre-ordered via the Amazon link below (when they get them back in stock).

* The higher prices listed at Amazon are from third party sellers and not worth it. Just wait until they’re in stock again.
