Don’t Starve: Giant Edition on PlayStation Vita

A short time ago Klei Entertainment announced Don’t Starve: Reign of Giants Expansion coming to the PlayStation 4. Well that wasn’t all their news, Corey Rollins shared some more information on the PlayStation Blog about a little something else they are working on:

I’m happy to announce Don’t Starve: Giant Edition is coming to PlayStation Vita and will include both Don’t Starve and the Reign of Giants Expansion. Now, we’re not sure of an exact release date yet, but it’s happening.

As soon as I played the PlayStation 4 version for free, thanks to PlayStation Plus. I realized it would be a perfect fit for Vita, and apparently almost everyone else did too. Now this edition coming to the Vita will include the original Don’t Starve along with all the updates and the Reign of Giants Expansion. So you can..

Play as Wigfrid, a stage actress who went a bit too far with method acting on her latest role, an ancient Valkyrie, or Webber, a young boy who lives inside the spider who tried to eat him long ago.

The Reign of Giants expansion adds new seasonal challenges including the torrential rain falls of spring and the blistering heat of summer. You’ll also get new procedurally-generated biomes filled to the brim with new creatures and gatherables that will either help you survive — or kill you. Oh, and Giants.

We’ve also optimized the game to take advantage of Vita’s touch features. Navigation for menus, maps, items, and crafting are all touch friendly, or you can use the classic button navigation.

We’ll have more details in the coming months, but we wanted to confirm it’s happening. We’re also working on the final steps to bring the Reign of Giants Expansion to PS4. So expect an update on that release soon.

Well I don’t know about you, but I’m excited for this. Don’t Starve is a fantastic game but I never get enough time to play it, at least now I’ll have no excuse. What do you think of this, will you be grabbing the Vita version? As usual, let us know in the comments below.

  • It’s not like you couldn’t play this on Vita to start with, thanks to remote play. But it is nice to see the game actually getting ported and supported to the Vita for those who don’t have a PS4 (shame on you!).

Very cool! I will definitely buy it for my Vita.
