Network Media Player app – PlayStation TV

In a recent post on the PlayStation Blog the people at Sony revealed a lovely new app that people have been wanting for a very long time. So far only announced for the PlayStation TV (PS TV) and PS Vita but I can easily see this coming out for the PlayStation 4, hopefully in the upcoming software update. Check out the extract below and let us know what you think in the comments at the bottom of this page.

Network Media Player app that will be coming to PS TV and PS Vita soon, which will allow you to access media servers over a network. The Network Media Player can be used to view photos and stream music and videos from a media server located on your home network. You can also copy photos, music and video files from the media server to your system. Further details about this app will be shared at a later date.

And yet in the US version of this blog post, there is not a single mention of such an app and they specifically say that you will NOT be able to stream media from media servers.

    Why the disconnect?

Well there is a month delay between the NA and EU release so I would think a software update would bring this.

  • I hope this feature hits PS4 and this isn’t Sony holding it back hoping to sell more PS TV.

    Any update on this?
