Persona 4 Arena Ultimax – 15%
Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm Revolution – 13% (Write-In)
Soulcalibur: Lost Swords – 7%
BlazBlue: Chrono Phantasma – 4%

Street Fighter 4 is still rolling along years after the original release and the Ultra expansion has made quite an impression on the community. The big surprise here though is the write-in votes pushing Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm Revolution into fourth place just barely being edged out by Persona 4 Arena Ultimax in third.

Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster – 22%
Dragon Age: Inquisition – 18%
Tales of Xillia 2 – 2%
Pier Solar and the Great Architects – 2%

Considering the consternation surrounding the game pre-release it’s amazing that we’re sitting here nearly a year later watching South Park: The Stick of Truth run away with the voting, well deserved as it may be.

Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster – 28%
Far Cry Compilation – 21%
R-Type Dimensions – 7%

Best Newcomer (New IP: PS3 Download) Nominees/Winner:
Child of Light – 30%
CounterSpy – 25%
Valiant Hearts: The Great War – 16%
Rogue Legacy – 15%
Hohokum – 10%

Child of Light takes home its second Golden Minecart this year as the Best Newcomer again, this time in the PlayStation 3 download category, once again beating out CounterSpy.

Best Newcomer (New IP: PS3 Disc-Based) Nominees/Winner:
Destiny – 37%
Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor – 35%
Watch Dogs – 14%
Alien: Isolation – 8%
Murdered: Soul Suspect – 5%

In one of the closest races of the year, Destiny barely squeaked out a victory by just ten votes. So consider this, if you were voting for Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor but you only voted once a day, you could have swung the vote and changed the winner by voting twice a day.

Best Multiplayer (PS3) Nominees/Winner:
Destiny – 37%
Diablo III: Ultimate Evil Edition – 25%
Far Cry 4 14%
Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare – 12%
LittleBigPlanet 3 – 7%

Back-to-back wins for Destiny and this time with a little more breathing room. The multiplayer-centric game clearly struck a chord with our community considering the competition in this category.

Best Family Friendly Game (PS3) Nominees/Winner:
LittleBigPlanet 3 – 49%
Minecraft – 25%
Disney Infinity 2.0 – 14%
Skylanders Trap Team – 4%
Invizimals: The Lost Kingdom – 2%

After taking fifth place in the previous category, LittleBigPlanet 3 runs away with the Best Family Friendly Game award with nearly half the votes. The latest entry in the series had enough legs (see what I did there?) to carry it past what initially appeared to be some stiff competition.

Best Action/Adventure Game (PS3) Nominees/Winner:
Far Cry 4 – 24%
Dark Souls II – 21% *Tie – Second Place
Diablo III: Ultimate Evil Edition – 21% *Tie – Second Place
Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor – 20%
Destiny – 11%

Just like last year in this category, this was one of the closest races with first to fourth being separated by less than twenty votes. This was one where any of the top four had a legitimate shot at winning and just one extra vote per day for any of them would have guaranteed the number one spot.

Read our review of the award winning game Far Cry 4 by clicking the banner below:

Game of the Year (PS3) Nominees/Winner:
South Park: The Stick of Truth – 31%
Far Cry 4 – 13%
Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor – 12%
Dark Souls II (Write-In) – 11%
Diablo III: Ultimate Evil Edition – 11%
Destiny – 10%

Clearly one of the biggest surprises of this year’s awards South Park: The Stick of Truth ran away with the voting in what appeared to be a heavyweight filled category. Very fitting considering what a surprisingly delightful game it was when people were expecting the worst. The other minor surprise here was the write-in vote for Dark Souls II being enough to take fourth place.

gma-2014-ps4

Best Sports Game (PS4) Nominees/Winner:
MLB 14: The Show – 46%
FIFA 15 – 22%
NBA 2K15 – 11%
Madden NFL 15 – 6%
Pro Evolution Soccer 2015 (Write-In) – 4%
EA Sports UFC – 3%

Now five years and two platforms. You people really love your MLB huh? At nearly half the vote it looks like this franchise may reign for years to come. It was nice to see Pro Evolution Soccer 2015 jump into the top five with a write-in vote and hopefully it can make some bigger moves next year, perhaps even challenging FIFA.

Best RPG (PS4) Nominees/Winner:
Dragon Age: Inquisition – 66%
Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn – 14%
Lords of the Fallen – 7%
Pier Solar and the Great Architects – 6%
Destiny (Write-In) – 2%
Bound By Flame – 1%

The RPG fans in our community seem to have strong preferences… either that or it’s the non-RPG people voting on name recognition. Either way, Each platform had a pretty emphatic win with the number one spot garnering 58%, 51%, and 66% across the three. The one (slightly) oddball choice here was Destiny(??) getting enough write-in votes to take the number five spot over Bound By Flame.

Best HD Remake/Remaster (PS4) Nominees/Winner:
The Last of Us Remastered – 43%
Grand Theft Auto V – 32%
Oddworld: New ‘n’ Tasty – 11%
Metro Redux – 7%
Tomb Raider Definitive Edition – 6%

The fight between The Last of Us and Grand Theft Auto V continues on. In 2013, the two games took five wins between them overall but officially went head-to-head in just one category with The Last of Us beating out GTA. A year later and it seems there was no other way it could go down…

Best Newcomer (New IP: PS4 Download) Nominees/Winner:
Child of Light – 26%
Never Alone < Kisima Innitchuna > – 18%
CounterSpy – 17%
TowerFall Ascension – 13%
Octodad: Dadliest Catch – 12%

So Child of Light completes the Best Newcomer hat trick, all without Cross-Buy. Quite a feat indeed. There was a bigger margin of victory here but only because everything was so close in the two through five spots.

Best Newcomer (New IP: PS4 Disc-Based) Nominees/Winner:
Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor – 38%
Destiny – 20%
DRIVECLUB – 12%
WATCH_DOGS – 10%
Akiba’s Trip: Undead and Undressed – 8%

We don’t hate hobbits-is… and all things Tolkien apparently as Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor pretty easily takes top honors here. Nice to see the two cap-crazy games end up side by side in the voting as well 😉

Don’t Starve: Reign of Giants – 20%
Never Alone < Kisima Innitchuna > – 19%
Hohokum – 13%
The Unfinished Swan – 8%

What’s more unique than controlling an octopus pretending to be a human? The charmingly wacky game from Young Horses was able to capture everyone’s imagination and take home the Golden Minecart.

Best Multiplayer (PS4) Nominees/Winner:
Destiny – 40%
Diablo III: Ultimate Evil Edition – 18%
Grand Theft Auto V 15%
Towerfall Ascension – 8%
Sportsfriends – 5%

Destiny runs away with here more than doubling the number two vote getter. For all the complaints people seem to have with the game the community still loves it. Clearly though this was a hard category for everyone as there were twenty-one unique write-in titles.

Best Family Friendly Game (PS4) Nominees/Winner:

The Lego Movie Game – 2%

Sackboy and friends have some more hardware to put on their shelves as LittleBigPlanet 3 brings home another Golden Minecart and along with it the second of two of the best acceptance speeches we’ve ever received. Seriously, if you haven’t heard them, listen to the podcast. Sumo Digital just laid down the gauntlet with their call-ins.

Grand Theft Auto V – 17%
Diablo III: Ultimate Evil Edition – 11%
Destiny – 9%

Grand Theft Auto V – 12%
Far Cry 4 (Write-In) – 7%
Dragon Age: Inquisition (Write-In) – 7%
Never Alone < Kisima Innitchuna > – 4%

Destiny takes home its fourth Golden Minecart making it this year’s big winner with the PS Nation community. Not to take anything away but this was another very difficult category for the voters as evidenced by the two write-ins taking the number five and six spots along with the fact that the total write-ins comprised 28% of the vote, more than Destiny won with.

A big thank you to every voter. How did your picks fare? Some votes were incredibly close again this year and just one person could have changed several of the results. We can’t wait to see what 2015 has in store for us.

Did anyone else vote for Naruto for best PS3 fighting game or did I get it that high by myself? I tried to get it to win and glad to see I almost got it to 3rd if it was just me.

Also glad seeing my complaining to get LBP3 added to the official nominations for best family game on PS4 paid off as it won big and had awesome acceptance speech.

    • Based on the number of votes quite a few people were writing in Naruto.

      • Psn Merc

I’m just wondering and I was voting from multiple devices twice a day so that could be why too.

  • himdeel

    Very nice!!

That pitchman from Bungie, though… once he said the aim was to ‘…add magic…’ to the game, my gloves were off. I MST3K’ed my way through the whole pitch. Loads of fun, that guy…
