Sony is in the early stages of building a new studio in Northwest England and its goal might be to work on Project Morpheus titles. Sony confirmed that the studio is under the Worldwide Studios brand after Eurogamer contacted them about a bunch of recent job listings on the PlayStation careers website.

The statement Eurogamer received was brief, but confirmed a new studio.

“We are still in the early planning phase with this studio, and are currently focused on hiring the right team. We look forward to sharing more news and formal announcements in the near future.”

According to Eurogamer’s sources the studio will be set up in Manchester and some staff from Evolution studios will be placed there. Specifically the laid off staff from a couple months ago since Sony promised to find new locations for those effected by the restructuring of Evolution studios.

Just a nerd from the Windy City. I’m actually really bad at describing myself because I get all self-critical and self-conscious. Follow me on Twitter, @The1stMJC, to see my borderline insane rants on tv shows and other non important subjects. If I’m not tweeting I’m probably just watching Buffy or Firefly for the millionth time.

Good sign. Sony is finally learning they have to suport their own hardware with sofsoftware.

I’m a little cautious about the whole VR thing. I could sort of see how it could be the future of media consumption and all, but it is just taking its baby steps.

I hope it really takes off – not like those $1,000 HMD (Head Mounted Displays) that Sony put out in recent years – and lead the way.
