While all of the focus so far has been on the current gen PS4, XBOX and PC versions, Activision Games Blog today confirmed that the latest in the Call of Duty franchise, Black Ops III, will also make an appearance on old gen, PS3 and XBOX360, via development teams at Beenox and Mercenary Technology.

Fear not, the promise of, “a true next generation experience,” unchained from the shackles of old hardware is not necessarily down the tubes as the first details on Black Ops III for last gen are all about how it will not be able to achieve the same heights as on PS4. For example, the announced four player co-op campaign on current gen will be paired down to hopefully two player co-op.

For instance, the campaign mode on Xbox 360 and PS3 is currently in development with a goal of enabling two-player cooperative play, instead of the four-player cooperative campaign on next-gen.

Hopefully, because if you read between the lines there, it seems like they haven’t quite got it down yet. Other features that won’t be supported on PS3 will probably be revealed at E3 next week.

The upcoming multiplayer beta will also only be on current gen and PC.

Good news for Call of Duty fans who have yet to upgrade. Bad news for WiiU Call of Duty fans as in the same post, Activision also confirmed there will be no WiiU version of Black Ops III.

Splatoon, then?
